The Yamaha HS8S is an 8" active subwoofer designed to complement the HS5, HS7 and HS8 active monitors and give extra bass extension. Using the HS8S in conjunction with these speakers will let you extend the frequency range down to 22Hz with a crossover at 150Hz. The HS8S has a a power output of 150W.
When used as part of 2.1 system, you can plug the main inputs into the HS8S via the XLR or TRS inputs and then connect the satellite speakers to the sub. In such a setup the HS8S will act as a crossover. With only 2 inputs this sub can't act as a crossover for 5.1 setups, however it works perfectly as the LFE speaker in a 5.1 mixing environment involving HS5 HS7 or HS8s as it will be on a dedicated LFE channel.
