Playground Games used Adobe Substance 3D to produce its new game, Forza Horizon 4, using Substance Designer to create almost all the game’s tileable textures, and running at least part of almost all its art assets through Substance Designer or Substance Painter.
The Substance 3D asset library is included as part of the Substance 3D subscription, with assets available to video game artists to download and modify as you wish.
With thousands of carefully curated, modifiable, parametric materials, downloadable node graphs, and game-ready 3D models to choose from, it’s helping gaming creatives, like those at Playground Games, achieve phenomenal results.
And, as well as being able to use thousands of versatile 3D assets created by the world’s best artists on Substance, the Substance 3D Sampler app allows you to make customised materials and lights quickly and easily using real-life images too.
Rising Sun Picture's Andrew Palmer used Substance to texture Mortal Kombat’s Reptile, working with Substance 3D Painter's UV Tiles workflow to deliver on time and with incredible detail.
Substance Painter makes 3D design flexible, organised and iterative. The Substance 3D suite helps with everything, from heavy testing and iterating at the beginning of the pipeline, all the way up to the final polish of a project’s assets.
Substance 3D Painter is the go-to 3D texturing app for gaming creatives, giving you the tools you need to paint stunning 3D textures on models and meshes in real time, helping you get the results you need with unbeatable quality.
The app’s advanced brushes and Smart Materials adjust automatically to any model to depict realistic surface detail or wear and tear – and it works smoothly with other Adobe Creative Cloud tools like Photoshop or Illustrator.
DEATHLOOP used an art pipeline with Substance at its core to create an award-winning game with a striking visual identity. It was created using a Substance 3D material library used on all the games’ weapons and characters.
The Substance 3D toolset can meet whatever texturing needs you may have. You can create textures from scratch using Substance 3D Designeror from existing real-world references using Substance 3D Sampler.
Substance 3D Painter lets you create smart materials by allowing you to paint on features like abrasion or rust — and to apply your textures to 3D models or environments, before exporting your assets to any game engine within seconds.
Artists can also use Substance 3D Stager – an intuitive rendering and layout tool for games artists that enables you to create both stylised and photorealistic renders by compositing assets into a 3D scene.
Quinton QU was recently named the winner of the 2021 Substance 3D Designer Insanity Awards after creating a playable tribute to the famous retro game Super Mario Bros, entirely with Substance 3D Designer. Amazingly, he made it possible to control your character within the .sbs file itself.
Designer itself is the industry-standard parametric authoring tool, giving users unparalleled artistic control over the creation of materials, image filters, and dynamic geometry.
Through the power of procedural creation, games artists can create materials, models, and lighting environments with the total control of node-based authoring.
Create your assets from scratch, or by combining multiple materials and parametric filters to create more advanced surfaces.
