Description

Description

The 1248 is part of MOTU's flagship audio interface range and offers a total of 32 inputs and 34 outputs and up to 24-bit/192 kHz sampling rates. It continues the legacy of the 2408 and 24IO core systems for those who want an expandable system with lots of I/O and the very best conversion available, but now with Thunderbolt and USB 2.0 for connectivity and ADB Ethernet for expandability rather than older PCIe technology.

The 1248 offers 8 simultaneous analogue inputs (8 line level TRS jacks and 4 XLR Mic preamps are available), 8 balanced line outputs, 2 banks of ADAT I/O, 2 separate headphone outputs and SPDIF. The on-board DSP-driven console software allows inputs and outputs to be freely routed and controlled, and the unit itself can function as a 48 channel digital mixer with 12 submixes and professional grade EQ, dynamics and reverb on-board. An on-board ADB Ethernet port lets you connect a second interface with a single ethernet cable, or you can use the optional MOTU ADB Hub to connect up to 4 additional interfaces for a maximum of 256 channels of IO or create a dedicated audio routing network - with all routing available via web app control from a smartphone, tablet or computer.

The MOTU 1248 is perfect for a recording studio setup, a mobile rig, or live performance, but the ADB networking makes it ideal for distributed audio recording or playback, installations and live sound.

Superb audio quality - For example, the balanced TRS analog outputs produce 123 dB dynamic range and -110 dB THD+N (0.0003%) at -1 dBFS, Unweighted, 1 kHz.

66 simultaneous audio channels - 4 mic inputs, 2 guitar inputs, 8 x 12 balanced analog with dedicated main and monitor outs, 2 x 8-channel ADAT optical, RCA S/PDIF (with SRC), and two independent phone outs for 32 inputs and 34 outputs.

Universal connectivity - Connects to your computer with Thunderbolt or high-speed USB 2.0 (compatible with USB 3.0). Class-compliant firmware and Industry standard drivers work with any audio software.

On-board DSP with mixing and effects - Flexible 48-input digital mixer modeled after large format mixing consoles, with 12 stereo busses and DSP effects, including reverb, 4-band EQ, gate, and compression.

32-bit floating point processing - The 1248's mixing and effects DSP engine delivers virtually unlimited headroom and the utmost in sound quality.

Modeled vintage effects processing - Classic reverb. Compression modeled after the legendary LA-2A compressor. EQ modeled after British analog console EQs.

System expansion and audio networking - Add a 2nd MOTU AVB interface (1248, 8M or 16A) with a simple Cat-5e ethernet cable. Connect up to five MOTU interfaces using a MOTU AVB Switch (sold separately). Build a network with multiple interfaces and computers using standard AVB switches and network cabling, with ultra-low network latency, even over long cable runs (hundreds of meters). Stream hundreds of audio channels among devices and computers on the network.

Matrix routing and splitting - Flexible, matrix-style audio routing and splitting for any analog or digital input, computer channel or network stream to any other output, computer, or network device. Split any single input to unlimited multiple output destinations.

256 channels of network audio I/O for your host computer - Record and monitor up to 128 networked audio channels in and out, simultaneously, through the Thunderbolt connection to a host computer.

Web app control - Control on-board DSP, mixing, device settings, and network audio routing from web app software running in your favorite browser on a laptop, tablet or smart phone connected by wire or Wi-Fi to your local area network.

Stand-alone mixing with wireless control - Connect an Apple Airport? or other Wi-Fi router directly to the 1248 with a standard Ethernet cable and control the 1248's powerful mixing and DSP effects from your smart phone or tablet, without a computer. Great for live sound mixing.

ADAT digital I/O - Connect outboard digital processors, digital mixers or other gear. 16 channels at 44.1/48 kHz or 8 channels at 88.2/96 kHz.

Comprehensive metering - The large backlit 324 x 24 LCD lets you view all signal activity at a glance with detailed metering for all analog and digital I/O. Access hardware settings from a simple and convenient menu.

AudioDesk - Includes AudioDesk workstation software with 24-bit recording, sample-accurate editing and 32-bit mixing and mastering.

Advantages of MOTU AVB:

Host access thru Thunderbolt or US. MOTU is first to combine AVB networking with Thunderbolt and USB2 connectivity. MOTU AVB networks do not require PCIe slots. Instead, you can conveniently connect your host computer(s) through USB or Thunderbolt.

Support for multiple computer hosts. A MOTU AVB network can host as many computers as can be physically connected, with complete access by all hosts to all connected devices and audio streams. All computers and all network devices run in sync with each other, resolved to the network's master clock.

256 channels of host I/O. Over Thunderbolt, MOTU's AVB interfaces support 256 simultaneous channels of audio I/O (128 in plus 128 out).

Over 512 streams of network audio. MOTU's AVB network can stream over 500 channels of audio throughout the network. Each MOTU AVB device can broadcast eight 8-channel network streams and simultaneously listen to eight 8-channel network streams.

Exceptionally low network latency. Standard AVB network latency is 2 ms. MOTU AVB network latency is an astonishing 0.6 ms, even over 7 "hops" (switches) and hundreds of meters of cable. By comparison, Cobranet has variable (unpredictable) network latency in the range of 5 ms.

Star configuration. MOTU AVB employs a star network configuration, which is much more flexible than daisy-chain scenarios, which require dependency on all devices in the chain.

Web interface.MOTU's AVB system can be controlled from MOTU's control software, which runs within any web browser running on any networked laptop, tablet, or smart phone.

Wireless control. MOTU's AVB system can be controlled wirelessly through its web interface from any networked wireless device, such as a laptop, tablet, or smart phone.

One-click synchronization. Click the "Become Clock Master" button in the MOTU AVB web app for the MOTU device you choose as the clock master, and all other devices on the network immediately resolve to it.

Thunderbolt connection to host computer. MOTU's core system interfaces (1248, 8M, 16A, etc.) can connect to the host computer with Thunderbolt, which allows full access to the entire MOTU AVB system network, streaming 128 channels of audio in and out, simultaneously, even at high sample rates, thanks to Thunderbolt's extremely high bus bandwidth capacity.

Special requirements

If you do require special shipping options, get in touch with us before you buy and we might be able to sort out alternative arrangements.

Returns

Our team take every care to get your new kit to you in pristine condition, but if an item is faulty, you’re less than delighted with it, or you’ve just had a change of plan, you have a few options…

Faulty goods

We’re happy to swap or refund any item that is confirmed as faulty (or ‘Dead on Arrival’) within 14 days of purchase, and will cover the cost of you returning it and a replacement being shipped out. Sometimes, we’ll put you in touch with a manufacturer if we think that’s the fastest way to get you a replacement, and we’ll cover the transport costs then, too.

After the 14 day DOA period, we’ll try and get you a return or repair in line with the manufacturer’s warranty. The collection and delivery charges will be covered by Jigsaw24 and the cost of the repair will be covered under the warranty, unless an inspection shows signs of damage or misuse. Again, in some instances we may offer to put you in touch with the manufacturer, but only when this is the quickest route to getting you a repair. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Non-faulty goods (Business)

If you wish to return non-faulty goods, please contact support@jigsaw24.com or call 03332 400 999. Wherever possible we will try to facilitate a return/refund but any request for return is at our discretion and where applicable, restocking fees may be required to reimburse any losses.

Non-faulty goods (Consumer)

You can cancel your contract within 14 days of receiving your kit, and another 14 to return it to us once the order is cancelled. Any requests for refund or credit made outside the 14 day window are at our discretion. We’ll exchange or refund any goods returned to us in full working order, but if an item isn’t faulty, you’ll need to cover the cost of returning it to us. The item(s) returned must be as new and in the original packaging. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Sealed software

Returning any software, even if it’s sealed in its original box, is at our discretion and will depend entirely on the individual manufacturer's policy. For example, some software will automatically allocate you a non-returnable licence, even if it is a boxed product. However, if the product is still a current part of our on-hand stock, and we’re able to confirm from the relevant manufacturer or supplier that they’re happy that licence hasn’t been allocated, we will try to take back any sealed software returned within seven days of purchase.

Electronic Software Delivery returns

ESD (Electronic Software Delivery), in which you’re supplied with a licence and a web link in order to download your purchase. As there’s no physical packaging, the licence has to be treated in the same way as an unsealed box, which means we’re unable to take this back, so please double check you’re buying the right item! Give the sales team a bell on 03332 400 888 if you need any help.

Returning products that raise hygiene concerns

Products that have contact with the ear, nose or throat can only be returned for a full refund if sent back with seals unbroken and in an unused condition (you must exercise reasonable care when evaluating the product as you would in a shop).

We understand that customers may be dissatisfied with the performance of products that raise hygiene concerns after they have tried them out.  If this is the case please contact us and we may be able to offer credit for another purchase (subject to inspection of the returned product) or to purchase the product back as second hand (taking into account that we would need to dispose of the item).

Terms and conditions

We’ll deliver your goods during normal business hours (7:30am-6:00pm) to the address you gave us when you placed your order. Unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing, the delivery times given by us are a best estimate, and we can’t be held responsible for any loss, delay or damage you may incur as a result of adverse circumstances like bad weather, traffic etc.

Any instances where you might be unable to pay your debts (winding-up, receivership, administration, creditor arrangement, bankruptcy) or you commit a material breach of the contract, we may immediately terminate our contract with you, suspend or cancel further delivery, and/or recover any unpaid items.
