Here’s why you need NewTek’s IP Series Studio Input Module

If you’re already on board with NewTek or are looking to streamline your live production workflow, the IP Series Studio Input Module is one bit of tech you don’t want to go without.

The Studio Input Module offers up seamless expansion of your current TriCaster production capabilities. Whether you’re sticking with SDI or you’re taking those IP workflow baby steps, you’ll be pleased to hear that it adds four SDI inputs, four NDI inputs or a combination of the two to your existing TriCaster setup, as well as a single return feed/output.

Combining SDI compatibility with IP flexibility, the NewTek IP Series integrates into your current infrastructure, while priming your facility for the future.

You’ll get four extra 3G, HD-SDI and SD SDI video sources, in any combination of supported formats, resolutions and frame rates. This allows four realtime input conversions and transmission of common IP video stream formats with virtually zero latency. That means you can expand your current workflow by adding any cameras or other SDI-based products to your TriCaster setup without having to upgrade your hardware.

The beauty of this camera input module is because it’s IP, it can be located anywhere on your network. Cameras will connect straight into your TriCaster, without any installation or any extra cabling.

Simply put, instead of a single direction dedicated video cable for each video signal (e.g. SDI) an IP-based workflow means you can plug your production kit into ethernet ports instead of installing expensive video cabling. This revolutionises the connectivity between your control room or across your facility, connecting systems, users, and departments.

The Studio Input Module also provides flexible audio integration, supporting the input and delivery of digital and analogue audio sources, and native and embedded audio support for input and output over NDI.

NAB 2016: NDI Source set to make a splash

NAB 2016: NDI Source set to make a splash

With so much hardware and software lined-up for the big event, we’re starting to get really excited for NAB 2016. One thing we’re particularly excited about is NDI Source.

NDI is already shaping up to be a big hitter at NAB this year, and now BlackMagic Video Interfaces can upgrade to join the IP Video party.

NDI Source, from broadcast pros Sienna, is the latest NDI offering. Source uses BlackMagic Design interfaces like UltraStudio Mini Recorder on a Mac, to convert your baseband SDI or HDMI source into an ultra low latency, high quality NDI stream. With Source, streams are now compatible with any NDI device (such as NewTek TriCaster and VMix), with other other devices being announced every day as we lead up to NAB. Simply put, NDI Source allows video editing and production work to be carried out over IP networks.

A Demo version of NDI Source for BMD is available for compatibility and performance testing if and when required. If you want to take NDI Source for a spin yourself, head over to the Mac App Store.

For all the latest NDI and NAB news, keep it here with us. We’ll be covering official announcements, tech and more in the run up to the event.

Atomos unveil ‘Flame’ Series

Atomos unveil ‘Flame’ Series

Atomos have announced their new ‘Flame’ series of monitors. The latest range of products will bring 4K HDR monitoring to the Atomos Shogun and Ninja.

Modern cameras are capable of shooting a much wider dynamic range than ever before, however, most monitors, LCDs & viewfinders are simply incapable of reliably showing what you’re actually recording. Now, Atomos have created the Flame series – the latest advancements in HDR monitor technology, in a camera top recorder.

The Atomos Flame monitors measure in at 7″ (calibrated at 1920×1200 325i), boasts 10-bit HDR post-production colour accuracy (a first for in-field monitors), and runs off the AtomHDR engine, which resolves HDR brightness detail and processes 64 times more colour information than 8-bit panels. AtomHDR allows you to view footage on the monitor as you would with your own eyes, clear and colour correct.

When filming in a traditional style (i.e. not HDR), the new Shogun and Ninja Flame can be switched into Rec709, which activates a brightness slider. This enables shooters to make the most of the impressive, daylight viewable screen. Also, the new units inherit Atomos’ patented continuous power system, enabling you to shoot nonstop (or for as long as you have charged batteries to circulate!).

As with previous Shogun and Ninja models, the Flame series comes with the same high quality, professional 4K/HD ProRes/DNxHR recording, playback and editing that Atomos is known for. All 4K/HD footage is recorded straight from the sensor into 10-bit 4:2:2 Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHR/DNxHD, and is stored on reliable, leading brand SSDs. Both monitors feature timelapse and pre-roll options, while 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown removal is also possible. The built-in focus, framing and exposure tools help make post production decision making a breeze, complete with various playback options.
