Team members can easily collaborate with each other from wherever they are—in the same building, across town, or even on a different continent.

MediaCentral | Panel for Media Composer Provides an integrated MediaCentral | Cloud UX panel within the Media Composer user interface, enabling users to drag and drop content from MediaCentral directly into any Media Composer project, bin, or sequence.

Media Composer | Cloud VM Enables anyone in a facility to access Media Composer software virtually using a lightweight workstation, laptop, or tablet with a high-speed network connection. Media Composer | Cloud VM provides the full Media Composer editing experience to multiple clients from a single server on premises.

Media Composer | Cloud Remote Enables users running Media Composer on their workstation or laptop to mix local and remote content in the same timeline—no matter where they are located. Media Composer | Cloud Remote provides users the best of both worlds—access to browse and stream any content from MediaCentral into Media Composer, as well as access to media that is stored locally. Local content can be automatically uploaded to MediaCentral in the background so publishing the finished program is virtually instantaneous.

Sibelius | Cloud Sharing A groundbreaking service that enables composers to share music scores to their own personal cloud space, embed scores in a webpage, and invite anyone to flip through pages and play compositions using any computer, laptop, or mobile device. MediaCentral Newsroom for Azure Now certified to run on Microsoft Azure, the MediaCentral-based newsroom system can be configured to deliver complete story creation and rundown management in the cloud for news teams, providing improved workflow efficiency and speed to break news across multiple broadcast and digital outlets.

Avid Cloud Collaboration for Pro Tools, Pro Tools | HD, and Pro Tools | First This innovative cloud-powered service enables artists to easily share tracks and work on projects with anyone, anywhere—and is now offered as an as-a-service offering hosted on Microsoft Azure.

Avid is demonstrating integrated Microsoft Cognitive Services at IBC 2017 (Hall 7, Booth #J20) that apply the latest machine-learning algorithms to content libraries, automatically indexing content to extract streams of time-based metadata. NAB 2017: Avid announces strategic cloud alliance with Microsoft for the media and entertainment industry

Comprehensive multi-year agreement includes technology collaboration, co-development and go-to-market cooperation that will set the pace for the industry in bringing media enterprises, creative teams and individual artists into the cloud.

Companies will work closely together on cloud-based solutions and cloud services based on Avid’s market-leading creative tools and media workflow solutions, and Microsoft Azure cloud platform and media services

Avid, a leading global media technology provider for the creation, distribution, and monetisation of content for media organisations, enterprise users and individual creative professionals, today announced that it has entered into a strategic alliance agreement with Microsoft Corp to cooperatively develop and market cloud-based solutions and cloud services aimed at the media and entertainment industry.

As part of the agreement, Avid has chosen Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud hosting platform, and will develop and launch a range of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offerings powered by the Avid MediaCentral Platform, the industry’s most open, tightly integrated and efficient platform designed for media. A technology demonstration of the Microsoft Azure hosted Avid MediaCentral Platform with select Avid tools and media workflow solutions will be shown at the Avid booth during NAB 2017 (Booth #SU902).

With a cloud-based offering built on Avid’s portfolio of the industry’s best and most comprehensive creative tools and media workflow solutions, the strategic cloud alliance will enable media organisations and creative professionals to quickly and easily leverage the efficiencies, flexibility and agility that the cloud enables – made possible by Avid’s flexible approach to licensing, deployment and commercial options. The cloud will also enable innovation by the companies around new media workflows, new operational capabilities and new business opportunities. While Avid’s hosting and services offering will be based exclusively on Microsoft Azure, the company’s commitment to openness will allow customers to make their own cloud hosting decisions.

The foundation of the alliance is a comprehensive, multi-year strategic agreement in which both companies will make significant mutual commitments and investments in technology, product development and go-to-market efforts. Under the technology and product development cooperation elements of the agreement, to support Avid’s product development efforts and investments, Microsoft will invest additional resources and funding to help accelerate time-to-market for targeted cloud-based solutions and specific Azure-based cloud services for the media and entertainment industry. In addition, the companies will work in close cooperation on the overall go-to-market approach, which will help clients migrate to the cloud easily and more cost-effectively, and allow them to work with both companies seamlessly.

Avid welcome Adobe Premiere Pro users to MediaCentral

Premiere Pro users, your years of warring with your Avid-loving counterparts are over. The two editing giants have joined together to bring harmony to the NLE market and peace to our timelines (and/or do some cynical marketplace positioning, depending on your worldview).

Adobe have previously teamed up with Maxon to give After Effects users dynamic access to richer 3D tools, and now they’re doing their editors a similar favour. The update will allow Premiere Pro editors to connect to Avid’s production environment via Avid MediaCentral | UX.

How does it work?

You will need to head to myavid.com and download the MediaCentral Premiere Pro Connector and install it on each of your Premiere Pro-equipped machines. You’ll then be able to see the Avid MediaCentral | UX HTML5 user interface within the Premiere Pro interface, and use it to access the wonderfully named “Avid asset management realm”, which consists of Interplay | Production, Interplay | MAM and iNEWS.

What can you do? 

Once you enter the realm, you’ll be able to:

– Search for media assets using the central Media | Index.

– Chat with other MediaCentral | UX users.

– Navigate database hierarchies.

– See, add and modify metadata.

Will you be able to register Avid Assets to Premiere Pro projects for editing? 

Hell yes, friend. Not only that, but you’ll be able to check out master clips in Premiere-supported formats, check out simple sequences for in-place editing and send rendered sequences back to Avid.

If your Avid media is not directly supported in Premiere, you’ll still be able to access it via an optional conversion to MXF OP-1a and simple XML shortlists.
