IBC 2017: Sony’s Z450 gets new firmware

IBC 2017: Sony’s Z450 gets new firmware

PXW-Z450 users, there’s new firmware coming your way. Granted, it’s not due until December, but in three short months you’ll be the proud owner of a camera with far better HDR, 4K and audio support.

Sony are really pushing to get their lineup HDR-friendly, and the Z450 receives support for Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and S-Log3 recording and output, and support for the BT.2020 colour space. You’ll also be able to record 4K HDR and HD SDR simultaneously to one card, and record HDR with BT-709 for an SDI output.

While you’re shooting in HLG or S-Log3, your viewfinder will display your image using the BT.709 colour space.

4K shooters will get Slow & Quick mode to play with (you can record up t 60 fps in it) and XAVC-L cache recording for your 4K footage, and a 4K resolution Focus Mag option.

Updates on the audio side are largely practical, with improved support for Power Save Mode being the headline. It’ll be available on your assignable keys, will sync with power off, and can even be used to control the power level of some belt transmitters. You’ll also see the power save status on the viewfinder when said mode is enabled.

FREE Canon firmware updates for the C100, C100 Mk II, XC10 and XC15

Keep your kit up to date with the latest free firmware downloads from Canon.

Canon’s latest firmware for the C100, C100 Mark II, XC10 and XC15 is now available to download for free from their website. Check out some of the upgrades available below!

Canon C100

The firmware update for the C100 enables peripheral illumination correction for the following lenses:

·         EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM
·         EF 50mm f/1.8 STM
·         EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-56 IS USM
·         EF 24-105mmf/4L IS II USM

This update also provides Cinema Servo Lens Support for the CN7x17KAS S, the CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S and CN20 x 50 IAS lenses.

Canon C100 Mk II

The C100 Mk II’s new firmware enables a shutter angle priority mode which maintains the shutter angle when the frame rate is changed.

The update also enables peripheral illumination correction data for the new EF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM II lens. This will compensate for any changes in T-stop throughout the zoom range of the lens.

Canon XC10 and XC15

Updates for both the XC10 and XC15 cameras enable support for the Video Performance Guarantee 130 standard for CFast cards. For more information about CFast cards that have been verified to work with this camera, please visit Canon’s website.

New firmware can be downloaded now by finding your camera model on the Canon website here. The downloaded folder contains a procedure manual for updating the firmware, so please check the manual carefully before starting update operations.

Sony release v2.0 update for F55, F5 and AXS-R5

Sony release v2.0 update for F55, F5 and AXS-R5

F5 and F55 users, we have exciting news. Sony have released a free update for the F55, F5 and ASX-R5 that unlocks 30 new creative features (you’ll need to update your camera and recorder to access them).

Highlights of the new firmware include the introduction of High Frame Rate (HFR) support, comprehensive exposure tools, 24p support and the ability to control audio using the rotary dial.

http://www.jigsaw24.com/sony-pmw-f55-super-35mm-pl-mount-4k-cinema-camera//-/fcp-product/18420

The download is available for free from the Sony site, but there are a couple of things to note before you hit download. First, you will need to update both your camera and recorder to access all the new features. Second, the download contains 15 files, and you shouldn’t attempt to install the update until all 15 have finished downloading. Third, if you find that after installing the update you still can’t access HFR features, do an ALL RESET on the camera, and that should sort if out.

If you’re using a DVF-EL100 or DVF-L700 viewfinder and want to get false colour, you’ll need to download the v2 software to your camera then send the viewfinders away to Sony Service to get this feature unlocked.

Download firmware version 2.0 for the F5, F55 and ASX-R5 now.
