Well done Langley Grammar on becoming an Apple Distinguished School!

We’ve just heard that one of our 1:1 iPad schools, Langley Grammar, have been given Apple Distinguished School status. There are only a handful of schools that have been awarded this status, so it’s something really worth celebrating.

The Apple Distinguished School title is given to top schools who show innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and share Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments based on iPad and Mac products. Schools are required to have an established 1:1 programme, show innovative use of the Apple platform, possess a faculty who have proficiency with iPad or Mac, and have documented results. So far, just 400 schools in 29 countries worldwide have been bestowed with the Apple Distinguished School designation.

As Apple themselves put it: “Apple Distinguished Schools are centres of leadership and educational excellence that demonstrate Apple’s vision for learning with technology – and we believe they are some of the most innovative schools in the world.”

About Langley Grammar School

Langley Grammar School is a co-educational selective school in Langley, Berkshire, who constantly focus on new and innovative ways to ‘do’ teaching and learning. In 2016, we helped them roll out iPad 1:1 for every student in years 9 and 10. The 1:1 technology has created new ways of challenging students to go beyond a textbook and comprehension style activity, and challenge whether they genuinely understand a topic well enough to produce a well thought out creative piece of media.

After implementing the 1:1 iPad scheme, students were asked to rate various aspects of their classroom experience on a scale of 1 to 5 before and after the iPad project. Enjoyment of lessons was up 137%; support from other students rose by 67%; there was an improvement of 24% in feedback from teachers; independent learning was up by 42%; and sharing work with other students saw a massive 401% increase.

Also, 64% rated their independent study time in lessons 4/5 or higher (previously just 45% did); 62% more students than before iPad said they share work with peers often; 64% rated the level of upport they get from their peers 4/5 or higher (it was 35%); and 82% rated their enjoyment of lessons 4/5 or higher, compared to 34% before iPad.

So congratulations on becoming an Apple Distinguished School, Langley Grammar – here’s to continued 1:1 success!
