About Streambox

Streambox are dedicated to helping you share your media with anyone, anywhere. They’ve developed pixel perfect codecs and transport protocols that maximise the use of all available network paths for faster transmission and playout over low-bandwidth IP connections.

There are a range of systems and products available to suit different workflows, covering everything from acquisition to management to live streaming, all designed to deliver unlimited scalability at low cost.

Jigsaw24 and Streambox

As the UK’s sole Streambox reseller, we can provide live demos at our place or yours, or loan you kit to test out with your own workflow. Available kit includes two Chroma 4K encoder/decoders, a Node2 decoder and software-defined HD/4K encoders. Get in touch to book a demo.

High-res encoding and decoding

Chroma 4K encoder/decoder

Streambox Chroma 4K is Streambox’s flagship product. Using their unique Advanced Compression Technology (ACT L3/L5) codec, it supports the most advanced colour profiles, colour spaces, and colour depths, including 12-bit 4:4:4 RGB/XYZ 4K HDR. The system can also carry 16 channel and 5.1 surround sound audio, so you can carry out sound and colour-accurate remote reviews. The system is widely used for remote review and approval of grading sessions, because it’s the only one that can sends the full colour spectra without decimation as a result of compression.

Streambox’s Low Delay Multi-Path Protocol (LDMP) makes intelligent use of available network paths to achieve high rates of transport and playback with minimal end-to-end latency, even if you’re working over low-bandwidth public networks.

Chroma UHD HDR encoder/decoder

Designed for collaborative video production environments, the Chroma UHD provides low latency HD and UHD HDR video over public and private IP networks, enabling secure, realtime remote collaboration. Ideal for production and post teams or enterprise communications teams, the Chroma can expand with your production’s ambitions thanks to an upgrade path to 4K/2K DCI systems.

Chroma HD encoder/decoder

If you’re not currently working in UHD, opt for the Chroma HD encoder/decoder, which delivers HD over public and private IP networks with high security and low latency. The system is ideal for production and post teams who want to collaborate in real time, and with an upgrade path to Streambox’s 2K and 4K DCI systems, Chroma HD can expand with your facility.

Chroma X encoder/decoder

The Chroma X compact encoder/decoder provides near-lossless video quality to enable secure, realtime, remote, collaborative workflows. Chroma X supports HD resolution footage in a range of HDR standards, so broadcasters, enterprises and post-production teams can enjoy colour accurate, low latency streaming over public and private IP networks.

Chroma X’s web interface allows multiple stakeholders to connect to a stream for remote review, in which they can highlight areas of interest using a mouse or touchscreen to draw marks, objects, lines, or words on captured frames of video.

NODE is a small form factor media player device that includes an HDMI output. NODE provides ten programmable channels and can be configured to automatically pull live video streams from Streambox Cloud Services and Enterprise Server, or receive an incoming stream directly from a Streambox encoder system.

NODE uses end-to-end AES 128-bit video encryption to safeguard your data with no effect on latency. Its HDR-ready, and can handle up to six channels of uncompressed audio with 5.1 surround sound.

Streambox Cloud

Streambox’s cloud-based services are designed to support digital cinema, post-production, and creative organisations by providing dependable transport on a global scale. The platform offers connectivity and collaborative tools for routing and management.

You can use Streambox Cloud Services to invite creatives into private review sessions, share encrypted video, and conduct group review sessions to share live, high quality, low latency 4K HDR, UHD HDR, 2K HDR, and HD HDR video for tasks such as review, VFX editing, and colour grading.

Mobile workflows

Mobile encoders and decoders

Key creatives in multiple locations? Streambox’s mobile encoders and decoders allow directors and producers to get a real time view of production from anywhere in the world. Because of Streambox’s unique colour fidelity, tasks like grading and approvals can now take place collaboratively, in real time, no matter where different stakeholders are based.

The AVENIR range

Streambox’s AVENIR range – comprised of the lightweight AVENIR Micro, the camera-mountable AVENIR Mini and the 400g AVENIR Drone – are live video encoders designed for mobile broadcasting. The encoders provide enhanced bonded connectivity capabilities, resulting in significantly more efficient encoding for HD and SD broadcasting. Designed for easy integration and outstanding quality, these small form factor, low-power devices can be integrated with broadcast cameras, satellite terminals, medical imaging technology, corporate media systems and more.

The Streambox VETA (Video Encoder Transport Amplifier) is a backpack-mounted mobile HD encoder with your choice of five or ten integrated 3G/4G embedded modems, plus a cellular signal amplifier. VETA is designed to make sure you can keep streaming, even when you’re in low-signal areas or areas like sports arenas, where the vast number of devices present often leads to signal congestion. By improving signal gain, VETA enables higher bandwidth video streaming, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Signal Extender 2.0

A lightweight, modular solution to low connectivity, the new, non-amplified Streambox Signal Extender 2.0 includes three embedded modems with high gain antennas, enabling you to connect to 3G, 4G and LTE networks. The Signal Extender 2.0’s weatherproof enclosure means you can mount it on the roof of your OB van, then simply connect it to an AVENIR Mini for phantom power and remote operation.

Streambox provides a range of software to encode, manage, and play back the media you’re streaming. Their software offerings cover a range of devices and operating systems, meaning your team can continue working on their preferred hardware, even as you work on improving your streaming infrastructure.

While many software add-ons are paid additions, some key applications are available for free – get in touch to find out more.

Encoding software

Streambox software encoders support the delivery of high quality SD, HD and 360 video from Windows and macOS devices, with additional software available to enable the delivery of UHD footage for macOS.

Mac users can opt for a Cloud Encoder-only licence, with advanced video compression technology, which is designed for encoding control to Streambox Cloud Services from Apple computers. Alternatively, full licences enable encoding and streaming from Macs or PCs to Streambox Enterprise Server, or direct point-to-point connectivity to Streambox media players. The program supports using a camera, or an SDI/HDMI input device such as Matrox, AJA, or Blackmagic Design to capture video.

Video encryption

Streambox Encryption is a software add-on which uses symmetric‐key encryption to encrypt your live, saved and archived videos, ensuring that your IP remains protected, and that any private data contained in your stream is seen only by the people you’re sharing it with. This is far cheaper and faster to set up than a traditional VPN system, but still gives you the assurance of AES 128-bit protection.

Media players

Streambox provide a range of payback tools, from the free Streambox Player (which decodes SD and HD video and audio for Windows and macOS devices) to the Streambox Player Pro (which combines playback capabilities with the ability to launch a full screen window for HD or SD broadcast quality on-air playout, and which can be used as a teleprompter in the field). There are also additional tools for users that want to take advantage of the efficient Streambox ACT-L3 codec while having the flexibility of QuickTime, and a dedicated Mobile Player for iPad and iPhone.

Enterprise Server

The Streambox Enterprise Server gives you access to a centralised suite of admin tools, so you can control large deployments from one location. Tools include remote management of encoders; scheduled routing of encoder/decoders; automated streaming, routing, grouping, and archiving based on metadata; routing and management of multiple incoming live streams, and the ability to set access permissions based on user roles.
