New feature-packed iPhone SE comes in at a budget-friendly price point

Apple have announced the all-new iPhone SE, and there’s one big surprise tucked away inside: the A13 Bionic chip launched in the iPhone 11 models late last year. That means industry-leading processing power and performance that far outweighs its budget-friendly price – this comes in at as little as £349 ex VAT for a 64GB model.

Ade Leader

To give you an idea of what to expect, we’ve run through the features of this new model.

First up… the visuals!

Apple have kept this one simple. Taking things back to tradition, both black and white options are available, as well as the now-signature (PRODUCT) RED model that comes along for certain releases. The device itself is made of durable glass and aluminium (similar to that of the iPhone 11), while the 4.7” Retina HD display makes this the most pocket-friendly of the models currently available in the Apple line-up.

For the button-lovers out there, iPhone SE also retains the home button below the screen which means the device sports Touch ID unlocking and Apple Pay functionality.

The cameras

On the back is a single 12 megapixel camera which shoots up to 4k quality at 60fps for amazing quality videos and crystal clear photography. While on the front is a 7 megapixel camera with the capability to shoot up to 1080p HD video at 30 fps. It also supports FaceTime HD for making video calls and taking unflattering up-the-nose selfies.

Power in all its forms

As mentioned, the big selling point of iPhone SE is that it also houses the all-new A13 Bionic chip, which sports a third generation Neural Engine. If this makes no sense, you just need to know that it means the very fastest power available in an iPhone, so running multiple apps, complex tasks and just about anything you can throw at it will be a breeze. In fact, for comparison, that’s more power than in any other smartphone – even the most expensive Android phones.

None of that power comes at the expense of battery power either. While it doesn’t quite match the dizzying heights of potential battery life in iPhone 11 Pro, it does have roughly the same run time without needing a charge as the iPhone 8.

What are the options?

Well in line with the usual Apple storage ranges the entry price will get you a 64GB model, with additional options for 128GB or 256GB. With a 256GB in the mix for only £474 ex VAT, iPhone SE is the perfect upgrade for existing users of iPhone 8 or earlier, all of which maxed out at 128GB. It’s also worth pointing out that the most specced up version of iPhone SE comes in at a lower cost than iPhone 11, so it’s a great choice for businesses looking to roll out devices to end users or upgrade ageing models.
