Free remote working tools: Our roundup

Many software providers are making their remote working tools free for a limited time in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. But with so many emails hitting our inboxes from companies affected by Covid-19, not to mention the constant news and social media chatter, it can be hard to keep up to date. Here are some of our top picks for now (we'll try to update this article with more later, too)…

Users who need to work remotely can take advantage of 90-day licences valid until Friday 17th April, allowing them to work as productively as possible without the need to incur extra licensing costs.

If this sounds like something your team might need, leave us a message via the form at the bottom of our Avid article and our experts will help put your licence requests to Avid directly occur.

Okta – Single Sign-On and Multi-Factor Authentication for free

It With entire workforces suddenly needing to access critical resources from home, it’s easy to imagine how many security issues, inefficiencies and support requests could arise without the right solutions in place.

Two of the best, most popular solutions come from Okta, a leader in identity management – and new customers can make use of them for a period of six months without charge.

As part of the company’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, it is offering ‘Okta for Emergency Remote Work’, a package including both its Single Sign-On and Multi-Factor Authentication products.

Single Sign-On provides a user-friendly way for employees to access all their applications, no matter their device or location, and Okta claim it can make it 50% faster for users to log in, too. Multi-Factor Authentication, meanwhile, improves corporate security by using possession factors like SMS verification and biometric factors like fingerprints in addition to passwords and security questions.

Both solutions, which can be integrated with business apps easily and customised to better suit customers, are available to organisations of all shapes and sizes. However, existing customers or those with any existing opportunity with Okta are not eligible; the offer is purely for new customers that haven’t worked with Okta before.

If you’re interested, leave your details with us on the form below and we’ll register you with Okta to get you started. possible…

One provider is hoping to attract businesses by offering its software completely free of charge for not one, not two, but three years.

3CX’s system allows users to audio and video call their colleagues quickly and easily through their computers or smartphones, with additional features like collaboration tools, live chat and conference scheduling also included.

Companies wishing to sign up can enjoy a three-year licence for free, with 3CX promising that the offer will remain valid “until the crisis has passed” – you can request your key on 3CX’s website.

Cisco – A range of products with extended free licences

US-based Cisco is one of the world’s biggest names in technology. With many of Cisco’s tools and services aimed at remote working, it’s little surprise they’re also offering a number of their solutions to businesses for free.

It started with Cisco Webex, the video conferencing, online meeting and screen sharing tool, when the company extended the free version’s capabilities back on 2nd March.

Now, businesses can also keep their staff connected with free licences and expanded usage allowances for three of Cisco’s key security technologies: Cisco Umbrella, Duo Security, and Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

Respectively, these solutions can protect users from malicious internet destinations, verify users’ identities and establish device trust, and enable remote network access from any location.

Organisations interested in securing their free licences can visit the Cisco website to learn more.
