Dell Technologies World 2022: Collaboration, security and an evolving partner programme

Dell Technologies World was back in person for the first time in three years, and we sent Senior Business Manager Lee Whatton to Vegas to take in the latest developments.

This year, Dell had three key areas of focus: collaboration, multi-cloud working and security, supported by new solutions, hardware releases and exciting new developments for the channel.

 

Deliver a multi-cloud experience to support hybrid workers

Hybrid working is now considered the new norm, with pressure from end users and executives alike to place flexibility at the heart of any workflow or IT strategy. While this has its advantages, it also poses significant security and risk challenges, which have clearly been a driving force in Dell’s solution development. Key to their offerings this year is the idea of a simplified, multi-cloud experience that allows the seamless flow of workloads while minimising security risks and improving the end user experience. 

It is clear where leading tech vendors, like Dell, are heading: they’re focusing their core developments around the user experience in the new working world. They want to facilitate collaboration and ease of use for the user while providing organisations with options around distributing workflow across both public and private clouds. Rather than prioritising one group over another, they’re letting a holistic approach drive their tech advancements, with the end goal of creating a multi-cloud environment that improves collaboration while simplifying security and management. 

 

Redesigning hardware for collaboration

The collaboration message was driven home with Dell’s major endpoint release of the show, the 13.3” 2-in-1 Latitude 9330. Dell have used the Latitude range to launch a new “collaboration touchpad” designed to facilitate smoother collaboration over video calls. When a video call is in progress, the touchpad will display icons for common Zoom controls such as mute, screenshare and camera on/off, so users will no longer have a learning curve when they encounter a new conferencing system and remote collaboration can go more smoothly.

The Latitude also addresses concerns around privacy, with an enhanced automated screen dimming system. If a user is in a situation where onlookers can pry, the Latitude recognises the threat, dims the screen and protects their personal and company data. 

 

Remembering the human element

Dell’s impressive range of keynote speakers gave everyone plenty to think about over the course of the event, but a personal highlight was hearing from Cambridge Analytica whistleblower Chris Wylie about the human cost of the data economy. The lack of trust and autonomy that results from the over-surveillance of end users – whether at work or on their own time – is the antithesis of the smooth, collaborative vision many of us share for the future of working life, and it’s important that we keep the human element in mind when designing systems, solutions and workflows.
