The LaCie Rugged BOSS is built to withstand the rigours of on-location photography or videography. When protected by a distinctive orange rubber cover, it’s rated to absorb drops of up to 1.2m, while splash and dust resistance keep your drive safe in all terrains. Portability is another huge advantage. Measuring only 36mm x 110mm with a depth of 136mm, it weighs just over 0.51kg ­– ideal for physically demanding environments.

One-button backup

If the orange casing is the LaCie Rugged BOSS’s practical attire, the Action button is definitely its party trick. Just one press lets you back up files from an SD card or USB-connected device via Easy Copy for the ultimate in on-location simplicity, and you can use the built-in status screen to monitor the transfer process. Connect to an iPad Pro, for example, and you can press the Action button to immediately search the device for files, then press again to confirm you wish to copy them all to the drive. It’s as simple as that.
 

Easy to connect 

As well as playing nicely with iPad, the LaCie Rugged BOSS can connect with any Thunderbolt 3, USB-C and USB 3.0 device, as well as both Mac and Windows computers. The box includes a USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable, a Lightning cable, a micro-USB cable, a USB-C cable for mobile devices, and a microSD card adaptor – ensuring you can use your drive with whatever piece of kit you have with you. The SSD can also act as a docking station for computers and mobile devices, or even charge phones running low on battery.
