Avid Link update: Faster and smoother license management

Since 2019, Avid Link has allowed creatives to manage their existing Avid products, promote their work and network with other Avid users. The latest free update, 2021.12, is one of the most exciting yet, with increased functionality throughout the application and improved speed activating and deactivating Media Composer licenses. Neal Kemsley, solution architect and Avid guru, looks at what these changes mean for our customers.

Seamless transitions

With Avid’s new cloud-based licensing, users are now able to smoothly move their individual Media Composer license across multiple devices whenever required. This can be done completely remotely and does not require any external support or activation keys, which removes many of the issues experienced by users in previous versions.

Device management

To ensure that one has full visibility over devices, it is now possible to simply enable email updates for whenever an activation is initiated. Managing devices has never been easier, as the user has full access to login history and most importantly, the ability to deactivate when any licenses when necessary, putting our users in complete control.

Rapid activation

While the new device management feature is the biggest change to the Avid Link UI, a simple increase in speed has removed time delays around waiting for activation issues to be resolved and for licenses to sync. Now editors and production users can easily activate Media Composer and start working with their projects immediately – a simple but vital improvement.

Security

The latest Avid Link update will work alongside most iterations of Media Composer and will ensure that all the latest security updates for the user’s Avid software are installed.

In the latest news, Avid have determined that versions of Avid Link prior to v2021.6 are potentially susceptible to the Apache Log4J RCE vulnerability, however, due to the nature of the application and its deployment method, Avid believes that this is not an exposure risk (further information can be found on Avid’s Knowledgebase here).

Despite this, Avid is encouraging users to update to a version no older than Avid Link v2021.6, which can currently be downloaded from this link: Avid Link - Connect & Collaborate - Avid. To get the performance benefits from Avid’s new Cloud License model, you can download Avid Link v2021.12 from the ‘My Products’ section of your MyAvid account.
