The media sector is one of the UK’s fastest-growing areas of employment, and we’re on track to become Europe’s biggest media and entertainment market by 2025. But to stay on top, we need to make sure we’re equipping the next generation of animators, broadcasters, filmmakers, and journalists with the tools they need – without sacrificing lesson time to hardware failures, exports and lost projects…
If you’re looking for something more advanced, it’s likely one of your main concerns is reliability (nobody wants to lose their A Level Media project the night before the deadline, after all) our Media & Entertainment Technical Pre-Sales Consultant, Jonathan, recommends putting your trust in Mac, as he did during his time supporting ITV:
“Having previously installed many education facilities and assisted in large team deployments at ITV, I always found Apple products to be invaluable for working with media. They are historically geared towards being creative, and the free software provided with a Mac is light years ahead of the competition in terms of user friendliness and support while learning the application, reliability, and free feature sets – which is perfect for students!
“In terms of software, I recommend Apple’s native iMovie for intuitive video editing, GarageBand for music production, and Photos for editing photography. The best thing is all of these apps and their related media can cloud sync to iPads and iPhones for creativity on the go.”
Jonathan added: “There are also some great industry standard media and broadcast tools which run great on Macs and have a free software option for students, such asAvid Media Composer, Avid Pro Tools, and DaVinci Resolve – all of which have a free ‘basic’ version that actually contains most of the professional tools.”
