Apple’s Everyone Can Create Apple Books series is designed to help students unleash their creativity and learn key skills in art, music, video and photography. This week, we’re checking out the Everyone Can Create: Video On iPad guide.
What is Everyone Can Create?
The Everyone Can Create series aims to give beginners and experienced students alike the opportunity to learn creative skills through drawing, music, video and photos on iPad. Unleashing the creativity of students will help them develop and communicate ideas, become better problem solvers and discover new ways they can leave their mark on the world.
But Everyone Can Create isn’t only for creative subjects, each guide is full of tips for integrating iPad and media-rich resources into different subject areas. And, with the DFE and Ofsted now looking to integrate creativity back into the classroom by only giving an ‘outstanding’ grade to schools promoting creative and technical subjects, making creative resources for different subject areas is going to be more important than ever.
Everyone Can Create: Video On iPad
The Everyone Can Create: Video On iPad guide will teach students the skills and confidence needed to make their own amazing movies across a range of different mediums, using only the iPad and its free, built-in apps (Camera, Photos, Clips, Keynote and Pages). Through the activities, students will learn about the fundamentals of shooting video, like framing the shot, choosing angles, transitions, storyboards and more.
What’s in the guide?
Video On iPad challenges students to move out of their comfort zones and create videos in seven different styles, ranging from traditional media like silent movies and documentaries, to modern online tutorials and mobile reports. Like all the guides in the Everyone Can Create series, it’s full of handy tips and illustrations that make it easy for students to understand the instructions, with lots of images and example videos to help students visualise what they are being asked to do.
Through a series of activities in each chapter, students will learn techniques to build their own video projects, and develop an understanding of the nuances of each distinctive video style, before they’re given a final project, ‘create a short film’, which brings all the different skills and techniques together.
Chapter one starts with the basics, and challenges students to create a selfie-style film of their hobby or interest. The activities in this chapter will teach them to trim and arrange clips, add posters, stickers and emoji, and finally add filters and music to enhance the mood. This encourages students to think about the different elements used in video, considering how each one helps convey their message.
The Teacher Guide
The Everyone Can Create: Teacher Guide helps teachers take the activities and projects in the books and incorporate them into their lessons. It also features integration ideas, which demonstrate how video projects can be used for different subject areas, such as recreating a historical figure from history, or asking students to create a science lab safety video.

The kit list
The only essential kit for using this guide is an iPad with iOS 11 or later, and the free Apple Books from the app store. However, if your school wants to use professional recording equipment, footage can be uploaded onto students’ iPads using iCloud, AirDrop, or by simply connecting the iPad to an SD card reader.
If you wanted to transport your students to different worlds, you could always invest in green screen equipment, which will allow you to edit in any background you want into your footage. Our green screen bundle includes a tripod, foldable blue/green reversible screen with support stand, tie clip microphone, headphones, adaptor and a small portable LED light – for just £499 ex VAT!
