Prepare your #FutureTalent by… Embedding creative skills across the curriculum

The media sector is one of the UK’s fastest-growing areas of employment, and we’re on track to become Europe’s biggest media and entertainment market by 2025. But to stay on top, we need to make sure we’re equipping the next generation of animators, broadcasters, filmmakers, and journalists with creative and digital skills and the knowledge needed to apply them to every subject…

Did you know you don’t have to invest in expensive hardware or software toprepare yourstudents for a career in media and broadcast? You can team the iPad with a green screen and tripod to put together a cost-effective ‘newsroom’ environment that can be used across the curriculum to embed those core creative skills and reinforce learning. Our Education Professional Development ConsultantRichardgives us thelowdown on why this is a perfect combo.

“Teaming the iPad with a tripod and some green screens creates the perfect media kit for filming newscasts, TV shows and live streams in the classroom. When I taught in Asia, we used these devices (and a Mac for editing in iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro) to live broadcast a film festival to students, parents and other schools.

“For schools that don't want to invest in broadcast equipment, the iPad has lots of apps that support media creation. To name a few, Apple Clips, iMovie, Garageband and Keynote are perfect for bringing storyboards to life and creating movie trailers or radio broadcasts. Some are even pre-installed when you purchase iPad.

“The best thing is media – and Apple products – can be embedded across the curriculum to bring children’s research and writing to life and help engage and inspire even the most disengaged students.”
