Vectorworks Designer 2012 allows you to take your design vision further than before as you can take advantage of the features within Fundamentals, Landmark, Architect and Spotlight, all from within one package.

Designed to make sure you aren't limited to a prescribed workflow the 2012 release includes improved BIM functionality, reduced rework, more intuitive 3D modelling tools, the ability to do solar animation utilising the Heliodon and faster viewport navigation.

The 2012 version of Designer allows for the expansion of your BIM workflow capabilities increased DXF and DWG support making collaboration with other companies using different software more efficient. Not only this but IFC, openBIM, is also supported allowing data to be imported, stored, retrieved and exported more easily.

The improvements made to the 3d Modelling aspect of Vectorworks Designer include automatic working planes which detect the different working planes as you move your cursor across the model making selecting the correct plane easier.

The Heliodon means that inputting the coordinates or a time zone to calculate light paths are a thing of the past. The easy to use functionality means that the directional light can be calculated by selecting the region and city.

To ensure that you aren't continuously re-drawing as aspects of the design change, take full advantage of Stories. By expressing the elevation of design layers relative to the story elevation, when changes are made to the story all the design layers within that story will adjust their elevation by the same amount.
