Designed by Neil Poulton, this LaCie server has an impressive 2TB capacity and offers Ethernet, USB 2.0 and eSATA connectivity for enhanced versatility. The practical fanless heat sink design ensures the storage server runs coolly and quietly, whilst the robust aluminium enclosure is lightweight and recyclable as well as being RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant.
The d2 Network 2 is ideal for instantly backing up, storing and sharing data via Windows, Mac OS X or Linux and is Time Machine compatible. Using Active Directory, the server can be easily integrated with existing Windows domains and enables user, groups, share and quote management. Suitable for networks of up to 200 users, this LaCie server is perfect for home or office use and has 19" rackmount functionality for server room flexibility. A handy USBShare folder acts like a normal external hard drive for easy file storage, and the widget-based dynamic web interface makes administration convenient and secure.
Other features include excellent multimedia compatibility (including remote photo thumbnails, iTunes and file streaming), an integrated copy system for enhanced security and portability, dynamic DNS remote access and DHCP and Apipa support for automatic network configuration. The server also ships with a selection of useful software including the LaCie Backup Assistant for easy administration, Genie Backup Manager Pro for Windows and Intego Backup Manager Pro for Mac, both of which can be installed on each computer for hassle-free client backups.
With the environment in mind, the d2 Network 2 provides UPS support via USB for proper shutdown in case of failure, whilst idle mode helps you reduce energy consumption during periods of inactivity. Offering support for a vast range of servers including HTTP, FTP, SMB, Apple Bonjour and BitTorrent, the LaCie d2 Network 2 can also be used as a print server with support printers.
