After previewing at NAB 2013, the latest version of GB Labs’ Core operating system for their Space storage solutions is out now. As well as performance boosts and better file management, there are also a couple of essential goodies on offer for those on an Avid workflow.
Core v3 now includes Avid Project Sharing and Storage Tiering, enabling you to share Avid bins and projects among editors from a single Space volume. Apparently, performance has now been upgraded by up to 20% too, with Version 2 of BlueShift, Space’s Ethernet from NAS delivery engine.
“Space has always been an intelligent system, able to operate without a control workstation,” said Ben Pearce, Sales & Marketing Director of GB Labs. “Core V3 takes this even further, with automated media and storage management built in. We have also developed the system to make integration with 3rd party archiving, asset management and project tools even easier.”
A few more additions, according to GB Labs, include:
Advanced Workspaces and Profiles. Save pre-sets for quick creation and delivery to your connected clients across different operating systems.
Storage Tiering. Automated management for where your files are stored – Super Tier 1 SSD, Tier 1 or Tier 2 spinning disk or archived on to LTO tape.
Hot Folders. Delivering automated rule-based hot folders for media traffic.
File Management. Copy, move and distribute data between Space systems with fast transfer speeds, without tying up client computers.
Additional Protocols. With Version 2 of BlueShift comes AFP, giving improved performance from 1Gbe or 10Gbe attached Macs using Space.
Active Directory integration. Bind Space to an AD and allocate groups and/or users to Workspaces. Available over SMB and AFP.
Secure location/Offline Updates. With many Space solutions residing behind secure networks or remote locations Core V3 allows for offline updates via USB key.
Single interface. Core V3 is available from the web browser and the engineering VGA port.
Extended UPS Support. Core V3 extends UPS support to Eaton products to boost support for APC.
Enterprise SSD. SSD OS drive as standard. Upgrade Kits will be available for older systems.
