IBC 2016: Sony announce updates for the F5/F55 and PXW-X400

Not in the market for a new camera currently? Sony don’t want you to feel left out. That’s why they’ve announced new firmware for the F5 and F55, plus a sensor update for the PXW-X400.

Version 8 of the F5 and F55 firmware will add support for Sony’s latest AXS-R7 on-board recorder and XQD G-Series cards (although these will require an adaptor).

Aside from new device support, the main update is that your F5 and F55 will now record XAVC class 480 in 4K/QFHD up to 30fps.

The X400, on the other hand, is going to get a sensor upgrade to turn it into a 4K camcorder. This is a hardware upgrade that’s available to Sony users through the Prime Support programme (itself relaunched at IBC).

The upgrade gives your X400 all the features of the PXW-Z450 we first saw at NAB in April.
