Blackmagic Design announce URSA Mini B4 Mount
Blackmagic Design kicked off the first day of IBC 2015  by announcing the URSA Mini B4 Mount. Here’s the press release…
“Blackmagic Design today introduced the Blackmagic URSA Mini B4 Mount which is a B4 lens mount modification for its new Blackmagic URSA Mini PL camera, that lets it broadcast HD lenses. Since URSA Mini’s launch at NAB, feedback from broadcasters has been overwhelmingly positive, and now they will also be able to use their existing high definition B4 broadcast lenses with Blackmagic URSA Mini.

The Blackmagic URSA Mini B4 Mount is designed to replace the existing PL lens mount on Blackmagic URSA Mini PL, turning it into a B4 camera for HD. To install the B4 mount, customers simply take the PL lens mount off where it is normally removed for shimming PL lenses and bolt on the B4 lens mount. The Blackmagic URSA Mini B4 Mount is a true lens mount replacement that features precision glass optics specifically designed to match Blackmagic URSA Mini’s sensor with high definition broadcast B4 lenses. The B4 mount also features spherical aberration correction so customers can use their lenses wide open with no blooming effect. The Blackmagic URSA Mini B4 Mount can be used with both 4K and 4.6K PL models of URSA Mini.

Once the mount is installed, B4 lenses can be attached to the camera. Blackmagic URSA Mini PL also includes a new lens control connection that works with both PL and B4 lenses. This new connection supports both analogue and digital lens control standards and also provides iris control and power for the lens.

The built in PL lens mount on URSA Mini PL can be changed to the B4 lens mount whenever needed, giving customers the flexibility to use URSA Mini with their existing B4 broadcast lenses for HD today, and with PL cinema lenses for Ultra HD and 4K tomorrow.

The Blackmagic URSA Mini B4 Mount turns URSA Mini PL into an incredible ENG style camera. Crafted from advanced technology magnesium alloy, URSA Mini is a rugged, yet extremely lightweight and well balanced shoulder mount camera that is comfortable enough to be used all day. There’s a 5” fold out monitor, complete technical scopes, professional audio recording, and dual ProRes recorders all built right in as well as the optional URSA Viewfinder and URSA Mini Shoulder Kit. With URSA Mini, news crews can shoot a story, mount the card on a computer in the van and begin editing immediately without having to convert files so they can get stories on air fast.

Blackmagic URSA Mini PL can be purchased with either a 4K or a 4.6K image sensor and features up to 15 stops of dynamic range. When used with high definition B4 lenses, URSA Mini shoots incredibly clear HD images that have massive dynamic range and look far better than the images from a traditional broadcast HD camera. Plus, broadcasters can use their URSA Mini PL with B4 lenses on one job and then switch back to PL lenses for another job.

“Since we announced URSA Mini at NAB earlier this year, broadcasters have been asking us for a B4 lens mount,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “We listened carefully and designed a way for them to use the B4 lenses they already have for high definition production, and still give them a camera that works for Ultra HD and 4K production because they can switch back to a PL mount lens whenever they need! The most exciting part about this announcement is that broadcasters using URSA Mini get the HD camera they need today with modern file formats like RAW, ProRes and DNx plus they also get wide dynamic range so the quality of the images are much better. From our conversations with broadcasters everybody is talking about the excitement of having digital film capability in an ENG style camera and they are aware of the extra creativity that can bring to their production work.”

Blackmagic Design announce DeckLink Quad 2

IBC 2015, Amsterdam, Netherlands – September 11, 2015 – Blackmagic Design today announced DeckLink Quad 2, a new high performance capture and playback solution that puts the power of 8 DeckLink cards onto a single circuit board that plugs into a single PCI Express slot. Designed for developers and OEMs, DeckLink Quad 2 is the ideal solution for media play-out servers, multi screen digital signage servers, real time processors and more. DeckLink Quad 2 will retail for $995.

This new model of DeckLink Quad 2 features 8 independent 3G-SDI connections so it can now work in high HD frame rates and it supports SDI formats in SD and HD up to 1080p60. Each SDI connection is completely independent, meaning that each of the 8 connections can input or output entirely different video standards and content streams, all at the same time. DeckLink Quad 2 can also capture and playback at the same time, and also includes a reference connection for black burst/tri-sync.

Developers can use the SDK to configure the eight SDI connections to be any combination of inputs and outputs.Featuring the latest, high performance 8 lane generation 2 PCI Express, DeckLink Quad 2 takes up only one single PCI slot in the computer, which makes it the perfect solution for system integrators and developers that need completely customizable, flexible I/O configurations on a single card. DeckLink Quad 2 appears as 8 independent SDI cards to the host computer, even though it only uses a single PCI Express slot and is ideal for use in servers that need to handle multiple video streams for both simultaneous capture and playback.

“Developers building playback servers have been asking us for ways to reduce equipment size,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “The new DeckLink Quad 2 is exciting because it’s like getting 8 independent SDI capture and playback cards in one! Best of all, the new SDK lets OEMs and developers control each SDI connection independently for incredible flexibility. This means customers can have any combination of inputs or outputs and for example they could have 8 inputs or 8 outputs or 1 input with 7 outputs or simply 4 inputs and 4 outputs. It’s really their choice and they can use the one card even when the systems they are building could vary from customer to customer.”

Blackmagic Design Announces New Teranex Mini 12G-SDI Converter Models

Blackmagic Design today announced three new Teranex Mini video converter models, allowing customers to convert from 12G-SDI to Quad SDI, from Quad SDI to 12G-SDI, and to distribute a single SDI source to eight SDI outputs.

Teranex Mini 12G-SDI to Quad SDI converts 12G-SDI to Quad Link SDI so customers can connect the latest 12G-SDI Ultra HD equipment with Quad Link Ultra HD equipment. This model also allows Ultra HD SDI to be separated into four HD SDI outputs for using regular HD displays for creating video wall style displays.

Teranex Mini Quad SDI to 12G-SDI converts Quad Link SDI to 12G-SDI so customers can connect Quad Link Ultra HD equipment to the latest 12G-SDI Ultra HD equipment. This model allows equipment that uses four BNC cables to be connected using a single 12G-SDI BNC cable for connecting to the latest routers, switchers, projectors and more!

Teranex Mini SDI Distribution distributes a single SDI video input to up to eight SDI outputs. This model features the latest multi rate 12G-SDI connections with full SDI re-clocking allowing the converter to automatically switch between all SD, HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. This is perfect for distributing a single SDI signal to multiple devices such as monitors, switchers and encoders.

All these new models include support for both Level A and Level B 3G-SDI equipment.

Because these new models are part of the Teranex Mini product family, customers can also take advantage of the Teranex Mini Smart Panel, which replaces the standard front panel and features push button and spin knob controls along with an LCD for monitoring conversions.

“Customers love 12G-SDI because it works with everything from SD all the way up to high frame rate Ultra HD 2160p60 over a single BNC connection,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “It’s being adopted faster than any other broadcast technology we’ve ever seen. These new Teranex Mini models help bridge the gap by letting customers use first generation Dual Link SDI and Quad Link SDI Ultra HD equipment with the latest 12G-SDI cameras, routers, switchers and more!”
