Røde have made a few exciting announcements at this year’s NAMM, but our top picks are the RØDELink – an on-camera digital wireless microphone system which works in the 2.4GHz spectrum – and two new updates to their shotgun line the NTG 4 and NTG 4+.
Røde have identified a clear niche with this wireless on-camera mic, because although the 2.8GHz band is license free, we’ve yet to see the ENG crowd pick this technology up en masse.
However, with Røde’s exceptional lavalier mic included in the kit and the a really versatile receiver (it can be mounted on a standard camera shoe mount, 3/8″ thread or belt-clip, and for added versatility the shoe mount can be located in one of two positions), they’re clearly hoping this is the mic kit to drive news-hungry crews to 2.8GHz. We couldn’t agree more.
NTG 4 and NTG 4+
Aside from their new wireless mic system announcement, RODE’s other exciting NAMM announcements are the new additions to their already hugely successful shotgun mic range, the NTG 4 and NTG 4+.
Both are 270mm shotgun mics with a 1/2” diaphragm, and can be mounted on-camera housed a in rugged metal chassis. They both have a maximum SPL capacity of 135dB and feature a high pass filter, -10dB pad and intuitive digital switching. Both require phantom power, but the NTG4+ also houses an internal battery which can be charged via USB and is good for 150+ hours of use.
