Weekly design inspiration: Pugs

This week we say a fond farewell to our digital marketing assistant, Sophie. As a tribute, and as a nod to national dog day on the 26th August, we’ve all been collecting pug-themed inspiration as per Sophie’s request. So, here’s our pugspiration (or inspugration) featuring a pug guide to etiquette, Bah Humpug and a sticky window… Thanks, Soph – we’ll miss you!

A pug’s guide to etiquette

Always wondered how pug etiquette works? As a thought that is constantly playing on our minds, we were glad to be able to turn to cartoonist, writer and illustrator Gemma Correll and her guide to pug etiquette. A mixture of classically cute and downright hysterical, we’ll all sleep better tonight knowing we can no longer be outsmarted by a lovable, slightly portly pug hanging its tongue out.

Dogs of the Marvel Universe

Hand drawn superhero dogs are up next! We’re loving this collection of illustrations from American artist Josh Lynch. His fierce Spiderpug and Captain Ameripug had even the anti-dog members of the team cooing.

Bah Humpug alphabet

These illustrations of a grumpy girl and her two weird pugs really charmed us. The simple black and white sketches and charismatic narrative made sure this piece topped our voting!

A pug Christmas

Yes, we know it’s not Christmas yet, but when you produce an e-Christmas card that features Isobel the pug clad in winter woolies licking a window for over a minute, we’re going to have something to say about it. Prepare yourselves for a Jigsaw24 version of this coming later this year.

Himalayan dog artwork

Always wanted your own personalised ‘beware of the dog’ sign created by a Himalayan native? Back in the day every house in Nepal used to have a hand-painted sign outside warning people of their pets. As a way of keeping this tradition going, American traveller Michelle Page has set up her own website where you can send in a photo of your pet and she will have an artist in Kathmandu create a sign for you. We’re particularly fond of the ‘enlighted chicken’ and ‘danger dog’ pug.
