Thanks for popping to our Post-NAB Roadshow!

Now that we’ve had chance to clear up and work off a bit of the ice cream, we just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who made it to our Post-NAB Roadshow in MediaCityUK and Soho. As well as a great chance to see some of the latest kit released at the NAB Show 2015 in Vegas, and hear from the manufacturers themselves, it was brilliant to be able to chat to some of you guys. Not to mention the after-party…

So how did it all go down? We’ve picked out some of our highlights from the two dates below, along with some of our favourite pics from the events.

Post-NAB Roadshow, MediaCityUK

Our first date on the tour saw us set up shop at the University of Salford in MediaCityUK – a fantastic space right in the heart of the north-west’s creative media hub – on Tuesday 19th May. Following in tow was a whole host of the industry’s top manufacturers, with the hottest new kit straight from NAB. There was a big buzz around Canon as they showed off their new XC-10 video camera and DP-V3010 4K reference monitor, Avid were getting a lot of attention over on their stand, and the guys from Wacom were getting mobbed by attendees wanting to try out the new Cintiq 27QHD and Cintiq Companion 2.

Adobe were also on hand to talk about how to get the most out of Creative Cloud, we had storage and backup solutions from the likes of Quantum, Marquis, G-Technology and GB Labs, new kit from EIZO, Sony, Atomos, HP and Rotolight, as well as Blackmagic Design joining us on the piazza in a full-on OB van.

On top of being able to get hands-on with the latest kit, we also had a roster of keynote presentations during the day, including:

Adobe: New updates to Adobe video tools with Niels Stevens.

Sony: XAVC and wireless workflows with Tom Crocker.

Sony: ODA with David Young.

Quantum: The importance of an integrated storage workflow with Alistair Washbourn.

Just to keep everyone going, we even called in Neil Hemingway from Ice Dream Experience to dish out free gelato to everyone. Unfortunately we couldn’t predict the hail storm that battered MediaCityUK for most of the day, but Neil gamely persevered. It’s never hailing too much to enjoy a mint choc chip, we reckon.

Post-NAB Roadshow, Soho

The next stop on our Post-NAB Roadshow tour was down at our Soho service and customer experience centre in Golden Square on Thursday 21st May. Whereas MediaCityUK had been all about showcasing new products, we ran the Soho leg a bit more like a drop-in day where you could ask us and all the exhibitors questions about key kit and workflows.

As the biggest event we’ve put on so far at our new place, it was also a great chance to say hello to clients and fellow industry people in the area, and a chance for them to see the new centre (we’d even got some balloons in to mark the occasion).

Keynote presentations on the day included:

Adobe: New updates to Adobe video tools with Niels Stevens.

Sony: XAVC and wireless workflows with Tom Crocker.

Sony: ODA with David Young.

Holdan: Let’s talk Blackmagic Design with Richard Payne.

Holdan: NAB roundup with Richard Payne.

Quantum: The importance of an integrated storage workflow with Alistair Washbourn.

GB Labs: Supercharged intelligent NAS for media with Duncan Beattie and Chris Luff.

Thankfully, the weather was a bit kinder to us on the Thursday, topping out at around 20ºC, so Neil the ice cream man was in hot demand in the beautiful surroundings of Golden Square! Then, once the day’s presentations had wound down, it was time to chill with our exclusive Vegas-themed after-party. With roulette, blackjack, canapes and plenty of liquid refreshment, it was hopefully something of a consolation for anyone who didn’t manage to make it to the NAB Show proper (not that NAB is just one big party, of course).

So, once again, special thanks go to the University of Salford for being delightful hosts at MediaCityUK, and the very keen students who popped along and asked us questions. A big hand goes to Neil for providing us with frozen delights throughout, we’re very grateful to everyone who exhibited and showed off all the exciting new technology from NAB, but mainly we want to say a huge thank you to all you guys who came down to either of the sessions and the after-party.

We’ll be holding another Post-NAB Roadshow the same time next year, and we’re also putting on a Post-IBC event too, so get in touch to register your interest. In the meantime, don’t forget to check out all our other upcoming events…
