Why did they come to us?
Archer’s Mark already had one Mac Pro equipped with Final Cut Studio and plenty of fast direct attached storage (DAS). They wanted to add another edit suite and create additional, sharable storage - all within an extremely tight budget.
What did they need?
A low-cost, easy-to-install solution that would allow them to boost their storage capacity with the minimum of disruption.
How did we help?
We discussed several possible software and hardware options with Archer’s Mark, and they opted for 16TB RAID (configured to RAID level 6) with an SAS link and SATA drives. When the SAS card seemed to be having teething troubles, we did some research and found that an LSI card suited much better, providing native OS X support and improved compatibility and stability.
Our engineers upgraded the existing edit suite and added another Mac Pro with Final Cut Studio and Creative Suite 4. Both Mac Pros were connected to an 8 port HP Procurve switch (as a flexible, cost-effective option that comes with free software updates) via aggregated Ethernet links. The installation was fast, trouble-free and, as we planned it around their schedule, disruption was minimal.
What were the benefits?
Jigsaw24 managed to bring the whole project in under budget, providing Archer’s Mark with at least 200MBps of bandwidth connecting the two Mac Pros and easily accessible, shared storage for the entire team, improving information-sharing and making sure everything in the office runs smoothly.
